Mustache training sounds so serious. Well guess what? It really is. The shape your mustache grows into is mainly genetic which doesn’t always leave you with the best styling options. That’s where training comes in to help it behave the way you want it to. Think of it as a bonding experience with your handlebar mustache and let’s get started.
What is a handlebar mustache?
The handlebar mustache is one of the most recognized facial hair styles. The ends of the mustache are twisted and styled far past the outer edges of the lips, resembling the handlebars of a bike. It was super popular through history, and luckily for us found its way back as the latest trendiest and most appealing mustache.
What to use?
Combing with a mustache comb or brush helps train your mustache hair to grow and lay in a new pattern. You can do it once or multiple times a day depending on your schedule. Pick the right comb because if you notice that the habit is leading to a loss of mustache hair then you need to reevaluate your tools.
Mustache wax is another tool in taming and training. The wax will trick your mustache to grow in a different pattern than it naturally wants to, to the sides instead of covering your lips. Select a high quality wax like our premium Bou Shanab wax. You need high quality wax to assist you in the styling and training process.
How to train it?
Step 1: Don’t trim…ever!! As tempting as it may be.
Step 2: Comb it – When it’s long enough to start doing so. Create a part by combing the hair out from under the nose to the left and to the right respectively.
Step 3: Wax it – Starting in the middle of your lip, apply a small dab of mustache wax with your fingertip to the upper edge and use a comb or your magical fingers to spread it down through the hair. Work your way out to each end, applying more wax as needed. If your mustache is wiry, use more wax.
Step 4: Twist and shape – For an extra handlebar curl, apply some wax to the ends and twist the hairs together with your fingers. As your mustache starts to fill in and respond to the training, you will find yourself combining the two methods interchangeably leading to stunning results.
