Come on guys, we both know that it’s not about whether or not you should blow dry your beard, it’s more of how to do it the right way. Usually, beard oil and balsam help keep your beard together and in shape, but there’s no harm in going the extra mile for a boost, especially if you have a curly set of hairs and you’re looking for a change. Today’s post is about blow drying your beard. Yes, this is as manly is it can get.
If done badly with hot air, you will end up damaging your beard, no questions there. The heat weakens your hair and dries your skin beneath your beard which will cause beard itch and beardruff. In fact, constant heat exposure can lead to discolouration, and that on its own is awful.
Blow drying the right way
- Use low to medium heat level and medium speed for a short period on each side
- Brush it while you’re blow drying for it to start taking the shape you want
- Once it cools down apply beard oil right away.
- Give it a last blow dry and you’re done, preferably with a lower heat and a quicker movement
You can ask any woman who blow-dries her hair regularly how much heat can do damage to the hair. Keep in mind that a cooler blow dry temperature is not as bad, and if you run a comb through there while you’re doing it, and you should be able to dry your beard in just a minute or two without having the increase the heat or time of hair exposure to the blow dryer.
Flat ironing
The heat from a hair dryer is already bad enough, and pressing your beard hair between two extremely hot pieces of ceramic is more damaging. Not to mention that you can burn yourself and your face if you do not know what you are doing. So don’t do it unless you really know what you are doing, and unless you have a really long beard. If you have thick hairs who tend to be waxy or curl up with humidity, consider using beard balm to get a little extra control over your beard hair. Remember, some hairs are more stubborn than others.
