We wanted to take the time to highlight some everyday habits that could be affecting your beard without you noticing. How could you? Aren’t you ashamed of yourself?
Heat exposure
If you hit the gym multiple times a week you’ll notice that many of them have saunas on site. There’s nothing more relaxing than taking a couple of minutes to relax as it helps the muscle sourness as well as opens up your pores. However, if you make a habit out of it, it will damage your beard as dry heat will cause your hairs to split and become thick to the touch. If you have the option of a steam room rather than a sauna, go for it; it will give you the same result but without the drying consequence.
Another heat causing problem is blowdrying. We’ve previously discussed it in one of our blog posts: it’s more about doing it the right way rather than not doing it at all. If done badly with hot air, you will end up damaging your beard, no questions there. It weakens your hair and dries your skin beneath your beard which will cause beard itch and beardruff. In fact, constant heat exposure can lead to discolouration, and that on its own is awful.
Everyday shampooing
First, you need to be aware that you can be harming your beard by simply using regular shampoo and that’s just wrong! These shampoos or soaps were not designed to use within your facial hair so they contain a completely different balance of ingredients and mix of components and you’ll either end up with a dry itchy frizzy beard , or worse, with no beard at all. Pick the right soap and shampoo that will promote your growth and maintenance. Second, and most important, you shouldn’t wash it everyday because you don’t want to deprive your facial hair of its natural oils or cause their fall.
Dismissing you beard
When you decided to grow a beard you made a promise to cherish and take good care of it. A lot of men, you included, might think that if you let it grow on its own it will take its shape but it’s actually the complete opposite; it will turn into an untamed bush that you’re not so proud of owning. From week one, you need to start using the right beard oil and balm because it’s never too early to start taking care of it.
